Advantages of Food Grains

Food Grains are one of the most essential food components for human body for survival. Most commonly used grains are rice and wheat. Besides these two there are other grains as well such as other cereals and pulses which are consumed to complete human nutrition. Generally grains are said to be the dry, hard and small seeds harvested for human and animal consumption. After drying the seeds, they become more durable than the other essential foods which are taken by human on daily basis and cover up the maximum portion of food consumption. According to the agronomists food grains and cereals are synonymous. They both are the fruits of grass family. They contain starch and carbohydrate that provides dietary energy.

There are two types of grains that human and animal can consume for life survival

Whole Grains: by whole grains agronomists mean the brown grain food products with natural components. It has more fiber than other grains. It is said that foods that contain 100 percent whole grains are the most effective and best food grains for health. Brown rice, brown bread, oat meal, oat bread, popcorn, muesli, whole rye, whole wheat pasta, these are the few whole grains to be named.

Refined Grains: these grains are exactly opposites of whole grains. Refined grains are modified from their natural composition. The reason for the modification is to make them germ free. But most of the time it has been seen that the modified grain loses the nutritional quality as well. On the other sometimes few extra minerals are added to modified grains such as iron, vitamins, thiamin and so on to enrich the food product. In general refined grains are inferior to the whole grains. Some of the refined grains are ready to eat breakfast cereals, pastas, macaroni, noodles, spaghetti.
